Yarmouth Wins $25 Million Federal Grant for Route 28 Overhaul

Yarmouth has been awarded a $25 million federal BUILD grant to help fund a $62.4 million overhaul of Route 28, town officials announced this week. The town also lifted a water quality advisory at Wing Groves Beach and Long Pond after testing came back negative for cyanobacteria.

The Yarmouth–Barnstable Route 28 Improvements Project carries an estimated total cost of $62,413,490, according to the town. The $25 million federal BUILD grant announced this week will offset a significant share of that cost; the town's announcement did not detail a construction timeline or the source of the remaining funding.

Separately, the town lifted its water quality advisory for Wing Groves Beach and Long Pond. An update posted this week confirmed that testing showed a negative result for cyanobacteria, following the advisory the town first issued July 9.

Yarmouth's public meeting calendar is busy over the next several days. The Select Board holds a goals-setting workshop July 18, followed by the Board of Health and the Community and Economic Development Committee on July 20. The Affordable Housing Trust and a regular Select Board meeting are both set for July 21, and the Zoning Board of Appeals meets July 23.
