Yarmouth Wins $25 Million Grant for Route 28 Overhaul
YARMOUTH — The Town of Yarmouth has been awarded a $25 million federal BUILD grant to help fund the Yarmouth–Barnstable Route 28 Improvements Project, a roughly $62.4 million undertaking, while the Health Department also issued a water quality advisory for Wing Groves Beach/Long Pond over potential cyanobacteria growth.

The biggest news out of Town Hall this week is the announcement that Yarmouth has secured a $25 million federal BUILD grant to support the Yarmouth–Barnstable Route 28 Improvements Project. The town's News Flash puts the total estimated project cost at $62,413,490, marking one of the larger infrastructure investments in the corridor in recent memory.
Separately, the Health Department is monitoring conditions at Wing Groves Beach on Long Pond after flagging the potential for cyanobacteria growth, according to a Water Quality Advisory issued July 9. Officials did not report a confirmed bloom but are keeping watch on the site.
The Select Board also released its latest "Select Board Spotlight" recap on July 7, summarizing recent board business, though specific action items were not detailed in the release. Separately, the town continues to track a Level 2 or "Significant Drought" designation for Cape Cod from the Massachusetts Drought Management Taskforce, and repairs to the Bass Hole/Gray's Beach Boardwalk remain slated for completion by the end of summer.

Yarmouth's Merrill Memorial Library has a busy stretch of programming ahead. On July 13, the library hosts "An Experiment in Birding" from 1 to 2 p.m., featuring Stacey Pazar Huth and Noah Gibb discussing their Maine Big Year birdwatching effort, followed by "Jurassic Terrariums," a dinosaur-habitat craft program for kids, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. the same day.
The library will also host "Birding in the Garden" on July 15 before closing early that day at 5 p.m., and will remain closed July 16 and 17 for the town's Clam Festival, reopening the following Monday.
COMING UP
The Public Art Committee, Community Housing Committee, and Old King's Highway Historic District Committee are all scheduled to meet July 13. The Planning Board meets July 15, followed by the Conservation Commission and the Monthly Library Board meeting on July 16. The Select Board holds a goals-setting session on July 18. At the library, "An Experiment in Birding" and "Jurassic Terrariums" both take place July 13, and "Birding in the Garden" is set for July 15, ahead of the library's July 16–17 closure for Clam Festival.
