Pan-Mass Challenge Cyclists To Pass Through Truro Sunday

Thousands of cyclists will pass through Truro on Sunday as part of the annual Pan-Mass Challenge, prompting a townwide traffic advisory, while officials also opened public comment on a decade-spanning open space and recreation plan.

TOWN HALL

The Town of Truro is preparing for the annual Pan-Mass Challenge this Sunday, August 2, with riders expected to move through town between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on their way to Provincetown. Town officials are asking residents to plan around the increased bicycle and vehicle traffic during that window.

Separately, the town is updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan, a document that will guide open space and recreation priorities for the next decade. Residents can weigh in through a community forum, by emailing pio@truro-ma.gov, or by visiting the town's dedicated planning webpage.

Barnstable County is also flagging a proposed Charter Study Commission that will appear as a ballot question on the November 2026 state election ballot, with the county sharing information on candidate requirements and filing deadlines for interested residents.

The town's News Flash feed reiterated a Route 6 safety reminder, urging drivers to obey posted speed limits, avoid cell phone use, and watch for pedestrians, cyclists, and turning vehicles — particularly near the Transfer Station.

In legal notices, the town is soliciting sealed bids for a "Truro Trailer," due at Town Hall by 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, according to a notice published in the Provincetown Independent.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Truro Public Library's Anne H. Brock Room is currently featuring work from the Truro Group as part of its "Art in the Anne H. Brock Room" exhibit. The library also highlighted its "Plant a Seed, Read" initiative, made possible by the Friends of the Truro Library.

On the library's event calendar, Thursday, July 30 brings a full slate of programming, including a Homeless Prevention Council outreach visit, a Mahjong session, and the "Sensible Shoes and the Illustrious Subs" event. A companion introductory Mahjong class for that same day is already full.

COMING UP

The Pan-Mass Challenge rolls through Truro on Sunday, August 2, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. On Wednesday, August 6, at 10 a.m., the Truro Public Library will host "Affordable Housing: Understanding the Basics," a workshop covering housing terminology, project financing, and the application/lottery process. Bids for the "Truro Trailer" solicitation are due to Town Hall by 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 13.
