Sandwich Rolls Out 'Slow Down' Yard Signs for Back-to-School Season

The town began distributing a limited run of "Slow Down - In Our Town" yard signs Monday, asking residents to display them through Sept. 30 as students head back to school.

The Town Manager's Office, 100 Route 6A, is offering the pilot signs to residents from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays while supplies last, according to a News Flash posted Monday. The signs are meant for temporary residential display during the back-to-school stretch to encourage drivers to slow down in neighborhoods.

The announcement landed the same day paving continued on Highfield Drive, previously scheduled to close to traffic from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, with full access restored by day's end. That work follows paving completed last week on Kiahs Way between Quaker Meetinghouse Road and Mill Road.

The State Primary Election, a Commission on Disability Subcommittee meeting and an Old Kings Highway Historic District Commission meeting are all set for Tuesday, Sept. 1. Wednesday, Sept. 2 brings a busy slate at Town Hall: the Board of Appeals, the Commission on Disability, the Sandwich Historical Commission and the Conservation Commission all meet that day. On Thursday, Sept. 3, JERA Americas holds its previously announced public meeting on the proposed Canal Energy Storage project from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Active Living.
