Yarmouth lands $25 million federal grant for Route 28 upgrades
YARMOUTH — Yarmouth has been awarded a $25 million federal BUILD grant to help fund improvements to Route 28, part of a joint project with Barnstable that carries an estimated total cost of more than $62 million, the town announced this week.
TOWN HALL
The Yarmouth–Barnstable Route 28 Improvements Project has an estimated total cost of $62,413,490, according to the town's announcement, with the newly awarded $25 million federal BUILD grant covering a significant share of that price tag. Town officials framed the award as a major infrastructure win for the corridor shared by the two communities.
Separately, the town continues to monitor conditions tied to the Level 2 "Significant Drought" declaration issued by the Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force for Cape Cod, first announced in late June. Repairs to the Bass Hole/Gray's Beach Boardwalk, which began following a June 30 update, remain underway with completion still expected by the end of summer. Water quality testing at Wing Groves Beach/Long Pond, which had been under an advisory issued July 9, came back negative for cyanobacteria as of July 15, according to the town's News Flash update.
